After ten months of freelancing, it looks like I’m going to be getting a steady paycheque again. At least for 5 months, anyway.
A few weeks back someone at lotusmodern mentioned a job posting at this institute, so I went and applied, as I have hundreds of times since last October. (Parenthetically, did I mention that I had been called for exactly one interview? Fokkers.) Anyway, I got an interview, nailed it, and then didn’t get a call back.
So I phoned them and said, “Hey, like, what the fuck?”
And they said, “Dude, you’re, like, way over-qualified. But we, like, like you, so come back and apply for this other contract job we’re posting in a few weeks.”
So I did. And they hired me.
It’s for five months as a “client-side developer” but I’ll probably be doing my same old schtick: a little proposal writing, IA, UX, HTML, etc. The pay sucks, but – get this – it’s a union gig. They actually told me they don’t want me working overtime! Have you ever heard of such a thing? For a web developer? Long story short, it means I can continue freelancing (which is good ’cause I still have a few clients to deal with anyway).
This is a Good Thing™.
Sounds like a Good Thing. Did it work out?
I guess so.
