I’m a big believer in teamwork. Not the warm and fuzzy corporate version of teamwork to which I’ve been exposed several times in my career, but actual teamwork, i.e., a group of individuals playing specific roles within the context of a sports team.
Sometimes I feel like some managers and/or leaders have never actually had the experience of playing on a team (even bowling fer chrissakes). Why does it matter? Well, because often I feel those leaders are applying the teamwork analogy inappropriately because they don’t understand what it is to be part of a real team working towards a specific goal.
I’m sure I’ll return to this theme as I struggle to find a place in a bigger team of professional developers.
