yeah, this is my excuse

I’m the first to admit my sloth-like tendencies with regard to this site, but at the same time I think there’s a bit more going on here. As you’ll note in these pages about me, I have a lot of different interests related to my professional and personal lives, and sometimes it can be hard to keep up. So when I read this post by Andy Budd, I found myself nodding and saying “yeah, that’s my excuse too!” (see post title).

Again, while I was never as prolific as Mr. Budd, the points about information overload, a change in focus, and working with creative and thoughtful individuals really rang true. The same has happened for me, and as mentioned a few days ago, I’d like to reduce the noise and try and make better use of the tools at my disposal.

As I attempt to try again to make this blog interesting, I’m faced with a myriad of ways to actually create and publish content. I’m inspired by guys like Dave Shea who have great things to say and share and have an understanding of the challenge that one faces as a web content creator and consumer; not to mention the ability to make sense of the technology and bend it to their will.

While there’s hope that I can use these tools to help me make sense out of the deluge, I’m aware that I’m adding to the problem. Ultimately, I’d like to contribute more signal than noise. I think I have some work to do.

This is why I remain unconvinced about Twitter.

Nobody who currently uses Twitter was sitting around two years ago saying, “I really need new information streams flowing into my life.”

With all the other mediums that are available for friends/brands to connect with me, I don’t see that Twitter adds more value than the cost of time it subtracts.

Maybe I’m just old fashioned. ha!
